MVP🏅Score

MVP🏅Score

So rather than just counting MVPs and then being done with it, it was decided to go into deeper detail than just that.  Legacy Points are awarded here based on a player's MVP finish and voting share % (VS%). Here is a table to show what I mean:

This way, multiple players who have MVP-caliber seasons can be awarded appropriately according to their finish, thus rewarding a level of year-to-year dominance in the regular season to players, technically even if they never win MVP.

However, there was one issue for me to address. Before the 1980-1981 NBA season, MVP voting was done by the players rather than the media. And also, their ballots only listed 1-3 players on it, rather than the 5 player-ballots that we've used since we switched to media voting. As a result, the VS%'s were much lower in this earlier era than the modern era. Which makes sense... less players on your voting ballot means lower VS%'s. To compensate for this, for years in this earlier era of MVP voting, the points awarded for MVP finishes were boosted a little bit, as can be seen below.

The results of each top MVP finish for each season is recorded in the main Calculator file within the MVP🏅Score tab as seen above. Green boxes are seasons (columns) where that player (rows) won an MVP that year, yellow boxes signify a 2nd place finish, orange is 3rd, red is 4th or 5th, and dark red is 6th through 10th .
